Goodbye old shoes

I had to make a difficult decision this weekend. Well, maybe it wasn't really difficult, and the decision was kinda made for me, but why is throwing away a pair of shoes so hard?

I had to say goodbye to my Me Too pink flower flats. Now, if you look at the picture, you'll see they are indeed in sorry shape. I have had them for years -- probably about 6 years. So I think I got my money's worth.

The final shame was the flower falling off. But look at the scrapes on the front of the shoe! My goodness, Elizabeth.

I have to admit, also, that even after I tossed them into the trash, I considered pulling them out. I COULD wear them for painting or something!

Absurd! So on that note, I bid you a final goodbye, old shoes!

My favorite makeup things

I like makeup. I've always liked makeup. I liked it so much, I worked for Aveda doing makeup. I have learned some great tips along the way -- especially since being in revival (trust me, after a couple services I had to find makeup that would stay, not rub off and not give me raccoon eyes).

So, here are my top favs:

1. Brushes: You've gotta have good brushes. These go with me everywhere.
  • Prescriptives, Aveda conture brush, sephora small brush and a big powder brush.

2. Eye makeup
  • L'Oreal Voluminous waterproof mascara. Mascara always runs on my eye lashes. I've searched for years to find one that gives me length, isn't clumpy and doesn't run. This is the best! And it's only $5.
  • Paula Dorf baby eyes. This brightens up the eye. It's awesome.
  • Avon waterproof kohl liner. It keeps going and going and going. Getting it off is the hard part!

3.  For the face
  • I'm into Graphtobian lately. It's formulated for HD, so it looks good on camera without making you look overdone. And it's really reasonably priced.
  • The color wheel -- tone down any imperfections by counter balancing. This is awesome.
  • The cream makeup is wonderful. Great coverage and it feels light. I like the palettes because you can mix a few colors together for a more natural look.
  • The powder is a wonderful finishing touch.

4. Cheeks and lips

  • Paula Dorf's Cha Cha is such a great cream cheek color. I couldn't find Paula Dorf for a while, until a friend said, "Look on her Web site." Duh! So now I'm using cha cha and her lip stick color Victorian. Great products.
  • Lip gloss. I really really really like lip gloss. I like the smooth feeling on my lips. Three favorites great ones are this green minty yumminess, Cover Girl's lip slicks and any Victoria's Secret. They don't get clumpy, they don't make your hair stick to them and they don't turn white in the corners of your mouth.

5. Moisturizer

  • I've used it for years. Even if I try another moisturizer, I come back to Neutrogena's.
Those are my top five! What are yours?

Spiders will send biggers ones to get you and carrot cake

Last week, I got really brave in my kitchen. I killed a big scary hairy spider.

I really, really, really dislike spiders. They are yucky.

First, I sprayed him down with bathroom cleaner, but it soon became clear that was not the fast way to kill the hairy thing.  So I summoned up my courage and quickly squished him with a paper towel.

However, since then, I've come under attack by several bigger, hairier spiders. They've been in my pool, my car, my husband's car (which had the biggest one -- I'm sure that one splurted when he squished it), and even my shower. The good news is that I'm getting better and more courageous at killing the beast. The bad news is that since I've discovered that I can kill them, more are coming at me. Suicide missions?

Totally unrelated, but worth mentioning is carrot cake. I went to Zest for lunch on Sunday. Good food, good company. I had a slice of carrot cake and it was amazing. Here's a pic of the remainder of it in my to go box. Anyway, definitely order it if you're at Zest!

Taking it off

You know those plastic peelie things that come on new electronics? They're supposed to protect your new purchase from scratches.

I find them very hard to remove. It's like the newness of the item and purchase will wear off.

So, I've had my new printer for nearly three months, but kept the plastic covering.... UNTIL now!

I've got to admit that I pulled by the plastic coating on the small side and freaked out. I quickly smoothed it back over the surface. However, it's time to just pull it off!

It's all off, but I am regretting it.

I threw away that coating, but fortunately the cats have been enjoying biting it and rubbing up on it. Maybe there's something in that plastic coating....

Can you have too many shoes?

I confess. I like shoes. I have lots of shoes, though I have not been adding to my shoe collection lately. Is there a point where you can have too many shoes?

I sort them by season and type -- tennis shoes and flip flops go in one basket. I organize by flats, heels, high heel sandals, sandals, open toes, slingbacks and winter shoes (boots and other). My winter shoes are in a separate closet with my winter clothes. My golf shoes are in my trunk, so these aren't even included.

And, I have a habit of taking my shoes off when I get in the car, so I have at least three pairs in my car, and three pair in my garage where I took them out of my car, but haven't put them away yet.

Don't ask me how many shoes are in my closet right now, because I'm not going to even count. But there aren't as many shoes as there were.

I am excited to report that yesterday's field trip to Price Chopper got us Frosted Flakes for $1.50 a box. I can tell you that Frosted Flakes -- the real deal -- are much tastier than the off brands Frosties, Frosty Flakes and others. The flakes are better coated and much bigger. Ahhh, Tony the Tiger.

I meant to get up and make my husband breakfast and lunch, but I couldn't open my eyes. How did I ever get up for 4 a.m. satellite media tours?

Today, I have another field trip -- I'm going to do some work at World Revival Network! Afterwards, I'm going to go swim, not leisurely but a workout. I went 1200 meters a few weeks ago, so I'm getting back in swim shape!

Free pizza!

Yay for free pizza from Waldo Pizza. Although it's not exactly cooking, it is a good meal from my wonderful hubby!
